Welcome to the second issue of IP News. We received great feedback from the first edition, with a number of people commenting that it was comprehensive, well presented, and valuable for the injury prevention sector. This issue contains plenty of info about upcoming events, resources, and much more. We hope you find IP News useful and encourage you to distribute it to others. If you would like to add to the next issue, let us know by hitting the 'Contact Us' link on the right. Also, feedback is always welcome.

This two monthly e-newsletter is a collaboration between the New Zealand Injury Prevention Strategy Secretariat, Injury Prevention Network Aotearoa New Zealand, the Safe Communities Foundation New Zealand and Sandra James. The editor of the Injury Control Bulletin is also on the editorial panel. The NZICB will continue to be published three times a year, featuring more detailed articles.

  National Updates  
  Safe2Go  
  Safe2Go is working to improve the use and correct installation of child restraints. A Safe2Go website is the latest resource that has been developed to support the programme with parents able to locate a trained Safe2Go technician in their area.

  Older Driver Licensing Changes and Safe with Age Programme  
  New transport rules abolishing the mandatory on-road driving test for those aged 80 and over will come into effect in December this year. Along with these changes will be an expansion to the popular Safe With Age courses, which are free for persons over the age of 55.   A Firefighter in Every Home  
  The Fire Service has started a new campaign to make more New Zealand homes safe from fire. After a long term campaign urging the installation and maintenance of smoke alarms, the Fire Service has started a push to see the installation of sprinklers in homes. Click here for more.

  Safekids Campaign 2006/07  
  On Friday October 13, the Safekids Campaign 2006/07 will launch with a focus on preventing childhood falls and childhood poisoning. The Campaign highlights the falls and poisoning issues for children aged under 15, and prevention measures families, children and communities can undertake.

  The NZ Community Safety Awards  
  The awards were held in Wellington on 15th August 2006. These awards recognize, reward and promote best-practice community-based injury prevention and safety promotion in New Zealand.   A series of regional forums are being held throughout New Zealand. Forums have already been held in New Plymouth, Northland, Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin, and one is to be held in Tauranga in November.   Richard Greenwood has joined ACC's Drowning Prevention Strategy team as a programme manager. Richard works alongside Kate Ryder and David Campbell, with the three of them managing and leading the implementation of the Preventing Injury from Falls Strategy and the Drowning Prevention Strategy.   Martin Small, Ministry of Transport, is moving to National Road Safety in Adelaide. Martin has worked with IP professionals in Aotearoa, and he looks forward to keeping in touch.   IPNANZ AGM & Symposium 2006  
  The IPNANZ AGM & Symposium will be held on Friday the 10th of November 2006. After the Mihi and welcome there will be an evaluation workshop: Evaluation - what works, what doesn't and why? How to use evaluation to take your organisation forward, followed by the AGM. In the afternoon we will talk about violence prevention with three expert practitioners whose work is grounded community action. Click here for more.
