Welcome to the 8th edition of IP News and the beginning of Spring. Thanks for your feedback from the last issue - we have provided you with the link again, so keep it coming.

This edition has lots of helpful news including highlights of the recent New Zealand Community Safety & Injury Prevention Awards held recently in Wellington. Another issue featuring in the news lately is hearing loss and we have included an article which provides some interesting facts.

  This draft framework describes the essential knowledge, skills and attitudes required to deliver effective mental health and addiction treatment services. It brings together the work of many people in the mental health and addiction sector and also incorporates feedback from regional workshops held in 2006.   ACC  
 

Former ACC Injury Prevention Consultant Peter Newsome is moving to a position with the ACC Levy and Scheme Management group as a Safety Management Advisor. Peter has been in injury prevention for three years, and will still be based in Christchurch. Alisa Davies has replaced Peter.

There have also been a number of changes with the ACC Programme Managers.

  • Ann Rose has joined the team to work in the older falls area. Her key project will be Tai Chi.
  • Sam Clark has returned from parental leave and is working part time in the home safety team.
  • Jessica D'Brass will be going on study leave for 5 months from mid September.
  • Michael Johnson has commenced as Programme Manager for Alcohol, Other Drugs & Intentional Injury.

Also Lara Blackmore recently commenced work as the new Injury Prevention Consultant at Palmerston North, after taking some time off to study Human Nutrition and Health Promotion at University.

  Injury Prevention Network of Aotearoa New Zealand  
 

The IPNANZ said farewell to Isabel Bird on Friday 17 August. Isabel was the Workforce Development Coordinator and has made a big contribution to the Injury Prevention Workforce Development Project.

Ruth Leversedge has been appointed as the new IPNANZ Workforce Development Coordinator. She will be taking up her new position on 23 October, and will be introduced to IPNANZ members at the Weaving the Strands 2007 conference in Napier in October.
