Welcome to the Autumn edition of IP News. The temperatures are starting to cool and we'll soon be searching for our winter woollies. Daylight saving comes to an end on Sunday morning, 5 April - a reminder to check your electric blankets and smoke alarms and replace batteries.

We have compiled lots of interesting items so grab a nice cup of hot chocolate and have a read.

  NZ Community Safety Awards  
 

The 2008 NZ Community Safety Awards was an overwhelming success, however, a change of focus by the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) has resulted in sponsorship being withdrawn. SCFNZ is hopeful of negotiating alternative options. Further updates, when available, on the SCFNZ website.

  Review of the Workplace Health and Safety Strategy for NZ to 2015  
 

The Workplace Health and Safety Strategy sets the priorities and direction for health and safety in New Zealand workplaces. The Department of Labour is undertaking a Strategy review that will be reported up to government by the end of June 2009. Information about the review terms of reference, process and opportunities for input will be posted on the Department of Labour website on 10 April.

Invitation To Submit Abstracts
This biennial IPNANZ conference is now the premium event for Injury prevention practitioners in Aotearoa.

Abstracts must be submitted by Friday 1 May 2009 for consideration into the conference's programme. Abstracts will be reviewed to ensure that the proposed papers are within the scope of the conference and for technical merit and originality. Jacqui Coyne has commenced as an IPC in Whangarei.

David Peirce has returned to the Auckland delivery team, having completed a secondment in Public Safety.

Kevin Rowe has been appointed to cover for Anna Lardelli who is away on maternity leave.

Hannah Thipthorpe has been appointed Team Manager, Public Safety, based in Wellington.

Rebecca Reid has resigned from her position as IPC in Wellington, and has now started in
