Welcome to the third edition of IP News for the current year. We are almost mid-way through the year and the temperatures are starting to cool. We want you to be safe on the roads, especially during the winter months, so we have included a link to the AA website which includes some driving tips to help you get to your destination safely. You can also read about the NZ Fire Service winter safety campaign.

If you have any information you would like to include in future issues of IP News, it's as easy as sending an email.

Take care out there and keep warm. If you are driving over the long weekend, remember the speed limit.

  Trades Apprentice Safety Challenge  
  A group of three apprentice linesmen from Tenix have taken this year's Trades Apprentice Safety Challenge trophy after competing against eight other teams in a day of 'hands-on' challenges at the Taranaki HSE Centre's annual safety competition.

  Wairarapa International Safe Community  
 

On 30 April, Wairarapa became the first region in New Zealand to gain International Safe Community accreditation for a whole region, with the three District Councils of Masterton, Carterton and South Wairarapa coming together to work collaboratively towards maintaining a Safe Community. Collectively these three Territorial Local Authorities (TLAs) bring the number of TLAs in New Zealand to achieve Safe Community designation under the WHO Safe Community framework, to 12.

  Help Shape a New Zealand Conference on Access Tourism for People with Disabilities  
 

The New Zealand Tourism Research Institute at Auckland University of Technology is planning to hold a one or two day conference on Access Tourism (AT) for people with disabilities (PwDs).   ACC  
 

Laurianne Reinsborough has resigned from the position of Strategic Projects Manager with the IP Group at ACC.

Bob Lowe, Pae Arahi for Rotorua /Whakatane area has left ACC. Bob has contributed greatly to the Waikato/BoP IPC Team meetings.

Chris Dent, Injury Prevention Consultant based at Henderson has left ACC to take up a position as an Underwriter with an Insurance Company in Sydney.

Nicole Murray, Marketing Manager for Insurance and Injury Prevention left ACC in April.

Helen Taylor and Darren Knight have both taken up roles as Injury Management Consultants in the IMC team for the Auckland area. Helen will be based out of Sales St Branch and Darren will be based out of Counties Manukau.

Andrew Baker has joined the Southern Team as an Injury Prevention Consultant.

Kelly Wang is shortly leaving ACC to return home to China.

Heather Rivett will be acting Manager IP Delivery from 31 May to 8 August 2010 whilst Tare Couper covers for Ray Campbell while he is on leave. Andy Redfearn will be looking after the Southern team during this period.

  The Pacific Peoples (June 22) and Maori-focused (June 23) Child Injury Prevention Workshops are now open for registration. Attendees can expect good representation from Pacific/ Maori community and child health workers, discussions, as well as the latest injury information and interventions targeting Pacific children and Maori Tamariki.
